Horgans achieve another award for their Honey Baked Ham!

Horgans Honey Baked HamMichael Horgan, Managing Director of Horgan’s Delicatessen Supplies Limited, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, stated that he was overwhelmed to receive the Gold Award for their Boneless Honey Baked Ham at the 2011 Blas na hEireann National Irish Food Awards in Dingle on Saturday night last.  This natural low salt product is produced from Irish pork and sourced from selected producers with full traceability.  It is a premium ham suitable for all retail shops, catering outlets and home catering, owing to its approximate weight of 2.50 kg, without excess fat or waste. Winning a Gold Award at such a prestigious competition as Blas na hEireann is significant for Horgans.

Michael stated that he was aware before he and Maura headed for Dingle, one of their favourite destinations in Ireland, that both their Honey Baked Boneless Ham and their Certified Irish Angus Spiced Beef had been shortlisted for an award.  But one never knows what the outcome will be amongst the serious competition in this event.  You just hope for the best.  Products that made it to Dingle were selected from an overall entry of 1,300 which initially had gone through a rigorous sensory tasting process at University College Cork.

I was absolutely thrilled and excited when Peter Ward, the highly regarded and passionate advocate of Irish Artisan Food, announced that we had been awarded Gold for our Honey Baked Boneless Ham in its category. This award meant as much to me as getting my first order about thirty five years ago. I am still as passionate as ever about this business.

Together with my wife Maura, our sons Edward and Paul and a great team of eighty people, we pride ourselves in providing a quality service with the highest possible quality products to the retail and catering trade.

In addition to the Blas na hEireann award, Horgans have recently been awarded Gold Stars for their Honey Baked Ham on the Bone, Unsmoked Ham on the Bone, Hummus and Imokilly Regato PDO at the Great Taste Awards in London.
