Michael Horgan, Managing Director of Horgan’s Delicatessen Supplies Limited, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, stated that he was absolutely delighted to receive two Gold Awards at the recent Blas Na hÉireann National Irish Food Awards in Dingle.
Horgan’s New York Style Pastrami has been developed by Michael Horgan, taking inspiration from the famous New York delis and using the finest quality Irish beef. Michael visited the iconic Katz’s Delicatessen in New York where he spoke with the owner and carefully observed the entire process, before bringing the knowledge back home and perfecting his own recipe. The process involves slowly curing brisket of beef in brine, the meat is then carefully covered in a blend of secret spices, and steam cooked for succulence. Finally, the beef is gently smoked over wood chips for added flavour.
Horgan’s Honey Baked Ham on the Bone is still produced today to the original Horgan family recipe since 1921. Horgan’s Honey Baked Ham is cured in a traditional brine, it is steamed cooked and then baked with a honey, unrefined brown sugar, mustard and ground cloves glaze to give a fresh edge to the ham’s delicate flavour. This ham is a firm favourite with Horgans customers, especially at Christmas and family events.
Winning a Gold Award at such a prestigious competition as Blas Na hEireann is significant for Horgans. “We pride ourselves on providing the highest possible quality products with a quality service to the retail and catering trade throughout the Island of Ireland” said Michael. These are premium Irish product suitable for all retail shops, catering outlets and home catering.
